While diving may not seem to be a part of boating, it is very closely related to it.  And it is certainly a fun activity.   We are going to focus on diving from small boats in places that most of us are likely to do our boating -- in coastal regions and lakes using snorkels -- not serious scuba diving.  

Unless you are diving in warm waters, wet suits are a must.   These come in various thicknesses of neoprene, depending on the nature of the diving and other watersports you are interested in pursuing, and the degree of cold you will encounter.   They can be found as full wetsuits or as partial ones - again, depending on the temperature.  

While many dives may take place from your own boats, there are some very useful "Diveyaks" that can also carry scuba gear and tanks, and that enable solo and tandem dives.   And there are scooters that can be used for both snorkeling and scuba diving.   They are very lightweight and totally buoyant, although weights can be added for scuba diving.   They look like fun!

Divers need fins, goggles/masks and snorkels.   There are even mask and snorkel combinations.   The criteria by which to evaluate all these are performance and comfort.   Some of the fins suggest that they can improve efficiency and reduce muscle strain, and some of the masks claim to have leakproof seals, although there are products that help provide mask seals, and to make them fog-free.

Other products for divers are underwater dive bags, even backpacks, diving knives, flags and floats.   And all of the diving products come in versions suitable for kids, so that the whole family can have fun.
